Apprentice Electrician: An Apprentice Electrician is licensed to work under the close supervision of a more senior team member. Wireman Electrician: Upon completion of supervised training and passing an electrical exam, an apprentice electrician becomes a wireman electrician. Wireman Electricians are licensed to work unsupervised in a residential home. Journeyman Electrician: Journeyman Electricians have extensive training and experience, having completed 8000 hours of electrical work under a Master Electrician. They are also required to pass a written electrical exam. Master Electrician: All electrical contracting companies are required to have a Master Electrician on board. They have completed 12,000 hours of electrical work under a Master Electrician. They are also required to pass a written electrical exam. This is the highest license that you can obtain.
